Lakeisha Henry is currently a junior at Howard University. Here are some key facts about Lakeisha:
-
Originally from Guyana, Lakeisha came to the United States for educational opportunities to pursue a career in the Legal Profession. After two years at Prince George's Community College in nearby Largo, MD, Lakeisha enrolled at Howard University for the 2016-2017 academic year.
-
During her time at Howard and PGCC, Lakeisha has held multiple internships in law and government. She interned in the Maryland House of Delegates and the International Law Institute. She has also served in leadership roles among student workers for the Howard University Development and Alumni Relations Office.
In 2021 Pay Your Tuition stepped in and paid an additional $5,000 towards Lakeisha’s balance but the University refused to assist her for various reasons unknown to us. Lakeisha needs an additional $12,000 to re-enroll and get her back on track to completing her degree. Here is a personal note from Lakeisha:
I am currently facing some financial hurdles that I cannot knock over on my own. For this reason, I am kindly seeking assistance from kindhearted individuals to help me complete my degree and get back on track to accomplishing my goals. Your assistance or investment no matter how little would go a long way and would make a great difference in my life. Thank you in advance for your act of kindness!
When PYT began working with Lakeisha in the summer of 2017, she had displayed academic excellence but lacked the financing needed to continue her studies. Frustrated by the process and lacking the requisite funds, Lakeisha took some time off from Howard. A prior due balance was a hurdle, but dropping out was never in her plans, and Lakeisha is now back at Howard. PYT worked extensively through the financial aid process over many months with numerous stakeholders (multiple school offices, private funders, etc.) to help her continue her studies and finish her degree.
